Before you replace the SIM reader
A 'No SIM' message has several causes. Rule out the simple ones first:
- Try a known working SIM card and a different network.
- Check the SIM tray is straight and seats fully.
- Look into the slot with a torch for bent or missing pins.
- Check for liquid damage or corrosion around the reader.
If the pins are damaged, the reader must be removed with hot air and the new one soldered in place. This needs a microscope, hot air station and board-level experience. If you are not set up for micro-soldering, pass the job to a board repair specialist.
